Gulpin Amigurumi Pattern

Gulpin Pokemon Amigurumi - crochet pattern by loopycathrine

I’m so happy to finally be sharing my Gulpin pattern with you all! I really had thought that I’d be able to share more of my patterns by now, but sadly I am so far behind. And as I’m writing this I still have to edit part two ready for next Sunday… Overwhelmed! I recently changed from my iMovie/Canva combo to Final Cut Pro to improve the quality of my videos. Bye, bye money. It’s been years (hi old!) since I last used Final Cut Pro, but a lot of the old short cuts came rushing back, which feels good somehow. The graphics in my older videos were made in Canva, so I had to recreate those in Final Cut pro, which took a bit of time. But now that it’s all done I’m hoping the next edit will be much quicker. Wish me luck!

Anyway… Enough of that! Before we get started on the pattern I should flag that I used needle felting to create the little patch on Gulpin’s back. I will not be showing you how I do this in my tutorial, as 1. I am no expert, and 2. it’s too time consuming and awkward to do on camera. So if you haven’t used this method before, I would highly recommend speaking to my good pal Google. There’s lots of useful tutorials out there from people who know what they’re doing. Alternatively you could also cut out some felt and glue it on.

The Gulpin pattern consists of two YouTube tutorials:

Part One | Head/Body (Sun, 4 August at 17:00BST)

Part Two | Lips, Arms, Eyes, Feather & Tail (Sun, 11 August at 17:00BST)

YARN & HOOK

  • 2mm hook

  • Stylecraft Special DK in Grass Green and Citron (Shiny Gulpin: Cloud Blue and Saffron)

  • Black embroidery floss

  • Polyester toy filling

  • Pins to place pieces before sewing together

  • Needle

  • Stitch markers (I prefer using scrap yarn as “stitch markers”)

  • Fibres in Dark Green for needle felting* (Alternatively Dark Green Felt, Shiny Gulpin: Dark Grey)*

  • Needle felting tool*

* Please note that I have used needle felting to create the eyes and for the colour finish of the ears. Needle felting is still quite new to me so I will not be including instructions on how to do this. You may want to look into alternative ways of creating the eyes, mouth, teeth and colouring the ears.
